Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program

Building confidence, discipline, and fitness for ages 5–12

Little Grapplers ages 5 to 7 kids BJJ class at Expedition BJJ in Regina

Little Grapplers

Your 5 to 7 year old is at the perfect age to start their Jiu-Jitsu journey. Our Little Grapplers program is designed specifically for young children — it's playful, engaging, and packed with movement games that quietly teach the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In every class, kids build core body coordination, improve their listening skills, and learn to follow instructions in a positive and encouraging group setting. Through partner drills and games, they develop spatial awareness and basic movement patterns that lay the groundwork for everything they'll learn as they grow.

We also introduce age-appropriate anti-bullying awareness — helping kids understand personal boundaries, how to use a calm and confident voice, and when to walk away. These lessons go far beyond the mat.

Most importantly, it's fun. Kids leave every class sweaty, smiling, and already asking when they can come back.

Junior Grapplers

The Junior Grapplers program is where serious development begins. Kids ages 8 to 12 are ready to absorb real technique — and our instructors are ready to teach it. Every class combines structured drilling, live positional rounds, and focused coaching to help each student improve week over week.

Students train in both GI and No-GI — giving them a complete foundation across both styles of Jiu-Jitsu. Discipline and respect are core values in every class. Students learn to show respect for their training partners, for their instructor, and for themselves.

The physical benefits are real: cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and coordination all improve dramatically. But what parents notice most is the change in their child's mindset — the confidence that comes from learning to problem-solve under pressure, the focus that carries over into school, and the quiet assurance that comes from knowing how to handle themselves.

Whether your child is interested in competing or simply developing a lifelong love of martial arts, the Junior Grapplers program gives them everything they need to thrive.

Why Jiu-Jitsu for Your Child?

The benefits go far beyond fitness. Jiu-Jitsu shapes the whole child.

Confidence

Watch your child find their voice and stand tall. As they learn new skills and overcome challenges on the mat, that quiet confidence follows them everywhere.

Discipline

Learn focus, respect, and self-control. Structure and routine are built into every class — skills that carry over directly into school, homework, and home life.

Anti-Bullying

Develop the skills and confidence to handle confrontation calmly and decisively. Kids learn de-escalation, assertiveness, and how to protect themselves if needed.

Fitness

Active, fun exercise that keeps kids healthy and strong. Kids build real athleticism — cardio, strength, coordination, and flexibility — without it feeling like a workout.

Social Skills

Make lifelong friends in a positive team environment. Kids learn to communicate, cooperate, and support each other — a rare quality in any competitive sport.

Focus

Improve attention span and concentration for school and life. Jiu-Jitsu demands full mental presence — students get better at locking in and staying on task.

What to Expect

Everything parents need to know before their child's first class

01

What to Bring

Comfortable athletic clothing is all your child needs for their first class. Shorts and a t-shirt work great. Bring a water bottle and a positive attitude. We'll provide everything else.

After enrolling, kids in the GI program will wear a traditional Jiu-Jitsu gi (uniform). We can point you in the right direction for where to get one.

02

First Day

On their first day, your child will be warmly introduced to their instructor and classmates. Class begins with a fun warm-up, followed by basic movement drills, and finishes with partner games and activities.

There's no pressure to perform — the first class is all about getting comfortable, having fun, and seeing if it's a good fit.

03

Safety First

All classes are run by certified instructors who prioritize safety above everything. Techniques are age-appropriate and taught in a controlled, progressive manner.

Our facility features padded mats and a clean, professional training environment. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for rough or unsafe behavior.

04

No Experience Needed

Absolutely zero experience required. In fact, many of our most successful students started with no athletic background at all. Our instructors are skilled at meeting each child exactly where they are.

Every child progresses at their own pace — there is no rush, no comparison, and no judgment.

05

Parents Welcome

Parents are always welcome to watch from the sideline. Many parents find it rewarding to see their child learning and progressing each week.

If you have questions about the program, curriculum, or your child's progress, our instructors are always happy to chat before or after class.

06

Consistent Progress

Jiu-Jitsu is a journey — not a sprint. Kids who attend regularly develop noticeably over time. We use a belt and stripe system to recognize effort, attitude, and improvement.

Progress is celebrated loudly. Every milestone is acknowledged, and every child is encouraged to be proud of how far they've come.
